Through freediving and swimming, Emmanuel Régent maintains an intimate relationship with the sea and water. He practices drawing, painting and sculpture. He sands down monochrome canvases, tears his watercolors, collects pieces of shipwrecks underwater, or spends hours drawing in felt-tip pen and black ink — for some twenty years now — queues, coastal rocks, trails left by lost planes and ships, archaeological remains, or contemporary cities in ruin. His work develops a reflection on time, both as it relates to artistic practice and to contemporary chronophagy, making slowness an instrument of resistance against the flood of instantaneous images that defines our era.
