Gerhard Hotter : Infinite limits
Gerhard HOTTER, whose attention has been focused on geometric design since the early 1990s, uses Langford sequences as the basis for his plastic work, sequences in which there is one number between two 1s, two numbers between two 2s, three numbers between two 3s, four numbers between two 4s, etc. For example: 3, 1, 2, 1, 3, 2.
These sequences are a playground for him to systematically arrive at the widest variety of constellations of colours and shapes. Each work is the object of rational (finite) as well as subjective (infinite) planning, since it is up to him to decide how the principle of the Langford series is applied, in what proportions and in what relation to other rules of the game. Emotional expression is introduced by colour, which reveals unpredictable, inexhaustible, sophisticated and fascinating effects!
Exhibition from 4 November to 3 December 2017
