Often, everything begins from a fragment — a shard of metal, a piece of jewellery — around which form unfolds and grows, like a seed from which an entire architecture might emerge. Whether it is a fractal city born from this nucleus, as in Imperium, or a wave frozen in stone by Tessendorf’s equations, the gesture is the same: the artist steps back to let the form speak. What the eye recognises — a city, a sun, a coral, a swell — is not represented but revealed: through pareidolia, we project onto it the structures we already carry within us, and ornament discloses itself as the hidden skeleton of the forms that surround us. For these equations do not produce smooth images: turbulence, irreducible to any exact formula, resists — and it is in this resistance that form is born. The work is never calculation alone, but the momentary accord between number and the matter that escapes it, between the precision of the machine and the slowness of the living. These pieces thus form not a collection of objects to be described, but a single field through which one passes without rupture from the seashell to the algorithm. To see a spiral is already to recognise oneself in it: an ethics of perception in which the work expresses no one in particular, but reconciles — for the duration of a form — gesture, number, and life.
