Sophie Coroller

At the beginning of Sophie Coroller’s work stands the quest for the almost impossible material. Aluminium of 6mm worked on resistance to the limit, almost impossible to find Thai paper that will have to endure a real work of marquetry followed by the vegetal baths’ trial, slates, glass and carbon fibres that only exist in the aeronautical field, extremely thin pyrex tubes that will be exposed to heat, polyester layers, carbon and glass tubes that will lay on a wall only thanks to a needle.
The abandonment of drawing, also stands at the beginning of her work. Freed from drawing, her work looks for another trait, that is found in space, the will to leave the support as if to give live to the saying “free as air.
Then, once the work is welcomed by the space and the relief, it questions their limits. Until when this rare and expensive material will last ? How to pass the line of the pedestal ? How to become free from earthly rules ? Escape from the material constraint and the wonderful non-euclidian rules . How to find the vanishing line that will manage to attain an aerial gravity ? Sophie Coroller’s work can be approached in this way : may the body of the world not weigh.
