Horacio Garcia Rossi
- 1929 Born on 24 July in Buenos Aires.
- 1935 Makes his own films with tracing paper.
- 1948/1949 : Advertising school in Buenos Aires.
- 1950/1952 : Manuel Belgrano Preparatory School of Fine Arts. He meets Hugo Demarco and Francisco Sobrino with whom he shares a small studio, La Piecita, until 1959.
- 1953 : Enrolls at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires.
- 1955 : Meets Julio Le Parc. Enrols in the Ernesto De La Carcova School of Fine Arts.
- 1959 : Embarks on the Claude Bernard for France. Visits Vasarely’s studio. Exhibition at the first Paris Biennale at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
- 1960 : Horacio Garcia Rossi, Julio Le Parc, François Morellet, Francisco Sobrino, Joël Stein and Jean-Pierre Yvaral found the Centre de Recherche d’Art Visuel in July, which becomes the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel the following year.
- 1961 : First GRAV exhibition at the Denise René gallery.
- 1984 :« Emilio Pettorutti » prize at the first Havana Biennial.
- 1990 :« La Ginestra d’oro » prize in Ancona, Italy.
- 1992 : First solo exhibition at the Lélia Mordoch Gallery.
- 1998 : Retrospective exhibition of the GRAV at the Magasin, contemporary art centre in Grenoble.
- 2010 : Mouvement (1964) is exhibited in a room dedicated to GRAV in the new permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
- Le Labyrinthe du GRAV (1963) is on permanent display at the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Cholet.
- 2012 : Death on 5 September in Paris
Perceiving, seeing, reading, understanding… Horacio GARCI-ROSSI has never stopped questioning the mechanisms of the perception. Co-founder of the GRAV (visual art research group) with Julio Le Parc, François Morellet, Francisco Sobrino, Joël Stein and Yvaral, he studied light, movement, instability and aleatory. Colour, light, transparency. Many of his works are titled « Colour Light Transparency », reflecting his constant research on how painting can create the sensation of light…
