Trained in management, Laurent Delecroix worked for twenty years in industrial logistics. In 2016, he began studying art in Besançon and in 2022 obtained his higher national diploma in plastic expression at Esä in Tourcoing.
Laurent Delecroix is fully part of a history of the art of abstraction resolutely oriented towards a distance from the gesture, objective, freed from the trappings of symbolism, romanticism or expressionism.
The beginnings of his artistic approach follow a precise, almost clinical protocol. In the process of creating the work, the act of painting is not denied or obliterated, but it is carefully circumscribed in its gesture, its form and its color. For paintings going from white to color, the monochrome shade is selected from a very limited color chart. A rule of proportionality determines the relationship between format, quantity of paint and brush, giving the works titles similar to chemical formulas.

The objectivity which leads the artist to withdraw from his work does not overshadow the important place left to sensitivity. Proof of this is the large part given to the often pastel color which could be described as fragile, graceful and attractive. We find in Laurent Delecroix this ability to reconcile, against all expectations, radicality and sensuality, materiality and spirituality.

His multiple researches are not limited to painting. Within a set of given rules, the artist blurs the lines, sometimes mixing sound, furniture, found objects and real plants into his paintings. Movements such as constructed or concrete art, in which Laurent Delecroix weaves his lineage, have always very firmly rejected any allusion to reality. The presence of nature therefore produces a new antagonism and can appear, if not as a provocation, at least an “unnatural” association. However, Laurent Delecroix once again plays with paradoxes by carefully avoiding any representation or simulacrum. The plant is there, in its most often trivial form, as obvious in the same way as a line, paint, a frame or a piece of furniture. The status of what we look at is therefore constantly questioned.

The status of what we look at is constantly questioned by the artist.
This question reaches its height in the series “F_1,8_MO_15_CL_V1-V6”, almost imperceptible, at the limit of the visible, it melts and merges with the surface of the support which welcomes it. Where does the painting begin? Where does it end? No doubt somewhere in an awareness of the reality of art and its importance, in the depth of a resolutely attentive and contemplative look.
